As generative AI innovations such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude become increasingly available, AJAETR underscores the importance of utilizing these tools in a responsible, ethical, and transparent manner. This policy articulates the journal’s official position on the application of AI by authors, reviewers, and editorial personnel, in line with standards set forth by Elsevier and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  1. Use of AI Tools by Authors

Authors are allowed to utilize AI resources for aiding the development of their manuscripts, but this should be performed with caution and complete openness. Appropriate applications comprise language enhancement, grammatical adjustments, reference formatting, and translation. Nonetheless, AI resources must not be employed to create fundamental content, execute scientific reasoning, analyze data, or substitute the author’s intellectual input.

All acknowledged authors must be human. AJAETR does not recognize AI tools or bots as accredited authors, since they cannot assume responsibility for the work or provide accountability. Authorship necessitates significant intellectual contribution, approval for publication, and liability for content—all of which AI tools are incapable of fulfilling.

  1. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors are required to reveal any utilization of AI tools within their manuscript. This encompasses AI technologies employed for text generation, data analysis, translation assistance, or code-related tasks. The disclosure should be included in the Acknowledgements section and must specify the tool’s name, version, and particular function.

  1. Author Responsibility and Accountability

Authors are entirely accountable for the precision, uniqueness, and integrity of their work submitted, comprising any material that was created with the help of AI technologies. They must thoroughly verify that content generated by AI does not contain inaccuracies, false citations, plagiarized elements, or biased phrasing.

AJAETR holds the authority to investigate and take action against any improper use of AI, including the submission of primarily AI-generated documents or the incorporation of AI material without appropriate acknowledgment.

  1. Use of AI in Peer Review

Peer reviewers are obligated to maintain the confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity that is anticipated during the review procedure. Reviewers are prohibited from utilizing AI tools to interpret or condense manuscripts, nor are they permitted to upload any segment of a manuscript to AI platforms without explicit consent, as this could jeopardize confidentiality.

Should a reviewer opt to employ AI tools for trivial, non-sensitive tasks like enhancing the grammar of their evaluation, they must inform the editorial team of this choice. AJAETR retains the authority to decline any evaluation that has been improperly influenced or created by AI.

AJAETR editorial team might employ AI tools for specific administrative functions like verifying originality, formatting citations, or refining language. Nevertheless, AI will not be involved in making editorial judgments. Every decision regarding acceptance or rejection will be determined by skilled human editors to ensure transparency and responsibility.

Everyone engaged in the publication process should make sure that content produced by AI does not bring forth bias, inaccuracies, or inappropriate material. Writers are encouraged to evaluate AI-generated outputs with scrutiny and refrain from depending on AI for activities that necessitate expert academic discernment. The application of AI must always uphold scholarly integrity and ethical principles.

  1. Violations and Consequences

Any effort to distort AI-generated material as if it were the original creation of a human author, concoct data, or present an AI-crafted manuscript without proper identification will be regarded as unethical behavior. Possible repercussions may entail:

  • Refusal of the manuscript
  • Withdrawal of the article after publication
  • Notification of the affiliated institutions of the authors
  • Temporary suspension or prohibition from future submissions to AJAETR

All infractions will be examined in accordance with COPE’s standards on publication misconduct.
